SHREWSBURY -  Music is in the air for the holiday season, and the Monmouth County Library is offering a plethora of tones, styles, and variety at no fewer than six of its branches as well as the Headquarters Library during December.

    Music lovers have a choice of two libraries to visit to get in the holiday musical spirit on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.

   At the Howell Branch, 218 Old Tavern Rd., the Billy Lawlor Trio will present its 9th annual  “Home for the Holidays concert, and at the Hazlet Branch, 251 Middle Rd., pianist/singer/narrator Fred Miller will present a unique Lecture-in-Song featuring Irving Berlin’s life and music. Berlin’s White Christmas is one of the most beloved of the more than one thousand lyrics he wrote in his lifetime and remains contemporary regardless of age or century.

      Lawlor, a keyboardist, vocalist and entertainer will be joined by Gary Mazzaroppi on upright bass and Tommy Labella on saxophone to present jazz renditions of holiday songs. The program is made possible through the Friends of the Howell Library who will also be on hand to serve light refreshments after the concert.

     Songs for the Holidays will be presented by the Monmouth Civic Chorus Caroling Corps on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Eastern Branch Library, Route 35.

       Tim McLoone and The Shirleys will be on stage at the same time at the Headquarters Library, featuring a variety of holiday music. Doors for this event, which generally draws hundreds of spectators, will open at 12:30 and seating will be on a first come, first served basis.

   A program of light classical music will be presented by The Festive Flutes  on Saturday, Dec. 15  at 2 p.m. at the Wall Township library branch, 2700 Allaire Rd.   The flute ensemble, with piccolo, C flutes and alto flute, has also presented Christmas music in malls, parks,  TV, and  senior homes throughout New Jersey, and participated in the first annual Flute Choir Day at Drew University.

    The Alan Broadbent Trio will be on stage at the Headquarters Library on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m., sponsored by the  Friends of the Library.  Broadbent leads the trio which features bassist Harvie S in a jazz presentation. Doors for this event will open at 12:30 and seating is on a first come, first served basis.  

     Charlie’s Band Concert will be at the Ocean Township branch, 701  Deal Rd., on Wednesday,. Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. Featuring singer/teacher Sandy Sasso, the program will highlight jazz presentations in keeping with the season.

     A Holiday Variety Show: Holiday Cheer, will be presented by LT Productions at the Colts Nek library branch, 1 Winthrop Drive in the municipal complex, on T Thursday, De. 20 at 7 p.m.  The group will feature songs, poetry and comedy in celebration of Christmas and Hanukkah.
