The Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club (AHYC) Art Show and Sale has become a yearly tradition!!
This is its 10th year. It’s a free event that gives local artists an opportunity to exhibit and sell their art. It has created an outlet for real talent. This year it will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 12 noon - 4:00 pm at the AHYC, 6 Simon Lake Drive, Atlantic Highlands, NJ.
Each artist also donates a piece of their work to a silent auction that 100% benefits the charity 180 Turning Lives Around. This is an organization that supports families in crisis.
This year many of our artists have been motivated to create unique functional art that uses recyclables and repurposes consumer products to make new beautiful home decor. Some unusual materials used area recycled billboards, canvas sails, and vinyl LP’s.
You will be happily surprised at the variety being shown at this show. Paintings in all mediums, wood turnings and carvings, pottery, photography, jewelry, home decor. All unique, all affordable.
One of the artists in this year’s show is John McAllister. John found his passion for making jewelry when he took a jewelry class at Brookdale Community College. Entering his first juried art show, John won first place. He works with all sorts of materials, copper, silver, semi-precious stones and more to create one of a kind beautiful jewelry. The name of his jewelry studio is MUD FLOWER. This represents the natural beauty of the lotus blossom, a flower that only blooms in the mud. “The mud is symbolic of my life experiences that were necessary in order for me to get where I am”, he says. His work has constantly been awarded first place.
Doreen Catena will also be featured in the AHYC Art Show, she is a former graphic designer who takes what was once waste and turns it into something functional and fabulous. Her one of a kind home decor pieces are made from recycled billboards and banners which have been cut, washed and sewn to create everything from director’s chairs and pillows to table runners and coasters. Each piece is unique and adds a splash of color and personality to any room. Her work has been featured in magazines like Green Living, Ocean Home, & New York Interior.
