MANALAPAN – “I am not a Witch,” a satirical feminist fairy tale, will be presented at the Library Headquarters of the Monmouth County Library on Wednesday, Feb. 20 featuring Rungano Nyoni’s BAFTA award-winning feature.
The 90-minute film will be presented at 2 and 6:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Friends of the Monmouth County Library.
Admission is free and no advance reservations are necessary.
In his debut feature, Nyoni sets the film in present-day Zambia and tells the story of a nine-year-old girl accused of witchcraft and exiled to a witch camp run by a corrupt and inept government official. The child is told she will turn into a goat if she tries to escape, and is exploited for her supposed powers, forcing her to make a difficult decision of whether to remain in the camp for life or take a risk at freedom.
The program is presented in English, Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga, with English subtitles.
