Our next CIRCLE OF SONG will be on
Sunday, December 2, 2018 - 2-4 pm - at the Eatontown Library, 33 Broad Street (Route 71), Eatontown, NJ 07724
We will be welcoming back Sharleen Leahey, as our Leader-Performer.
Sharleen sent one of Spook Handy’s songs (Vote!) to Pete Seeger. Both Spook and I met Pete after that – it wouldn’t have happened except through her efforts. As a performer, her enthusiasm for songs that have meaning is catching. Maybe she will bring her band, the Cactus Flowers. They’re all members of our Circle. My favorite song of Sharleen’s is titled “What would Woody Write?” Did you know that Woody actually wrote a song about his landlord, Trump (the father)?
Also: PLEASE RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP with NJ Friends of Clearwater – I have included a form at the end of this e-mail. We need your help. One day of our Festival was rained out. Besides, we’re always struggling to make ends meet. Most of our members are lifetime, and our expenses are high, including those for insuring the Festival and our boat, “Pete [Seeger]’s Banjo.”
Information about our Circle of Song:
We’re in our 9th year. As usual, we will pass a hat, and the suggested donation is $7. Half of that goes to “Pastor Sony’s Church,” the First Methodist Church of Asbury Park. He was first to offer us a space in his basement, allowing us to start this Song Circle. He still feeds the homeless in Asbury Park. The other half helps support NJ Friends of Clearwater’s Festival, which is still free.
If you bring your instrument – even if you don’t – we can promise you that you’ll have a chance to sing and/or play. We encourage songs about the Environment and Sing-Along Songs, but you can do others. Our Song Circle is a great place to try out new material, but many just come and listen – or sing along.
