Professor Ziobro at Marlboro library

MARLBORO – Melissa Ziobro, Specialist Professor of Public History at Monmouth University, will present a multimedia look at “Hidden Figures,” in celebration of Black History month on Thursday., Feb. 28.

The program will be presented at 1 p.m. at the Marlboro branch of the Monmouth County Library, 1 Library Court. Admission is free and no reservations are needed.

Ziabro, whose college courses include oral history and museums and archives management, also administers the Monmouth Memories Oral History program at the college and serves on the Executive Board of Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Regional as editor for NJ Studies.  She also served as a command historian at the US Army Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth for seven years.

In her program, Ziabro will highlight the Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth and how it provided a place where black scientists and engineers could find jobs and advance their careers. In spite of the precedence the Fort’s actions took during the 1940s and 1950s, it did not prevent these employees from discrimination and segregation, common throughout the American culture at the time.
