SHREWSBURY - Monmouth County Library Commission Chair Renee B. Swartz will read award winning author Judy Sierra’s “Wild about Books” to children at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library Saturday, Jan. 19.
Swartz, for whom the children’s library at the Route 35 facility was recently named,, will present one part of an afternoon of activities planned for family including children from three years of age and older.
With the book reading set for 2 p.m. the program will also include a presented by Zoo Jersey featuring interaction for the children with live animals. Light refreshments will also be served at the end of the program.
“It is important for children to see the joy in reading, no only on their own, but in a group with a storyteller recounting the story and showing accompanying pictures,” said Swartz, long-time advocate of the importance of reading at all ages.
Sierra is an award-winning author who presents folktales in both rhyme and prose and has received accolades including seven Children’s Choice Awards from the International Reading Association/Children’s Book Council. She has also received two Aesop awards from the American Folklore Society and the C.B> White Read-Aloud Prize from the Association of Booksellers for children. The author of more than 40 titles, including picture books and juvenile fiction, Sierra has had several of her books listed as Notable Books by the American Library Association. Many of her books will be on display at the Read-Aloud event.

This will be the first time Eastern Branch Library has featured a read-aloud personality for the children’s library. Seating is limited, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the approximate 15-minute presentation.
